The Origin and Role of Twist in Active Regions

چکیده
The implications of twist in active region magnetic elds is considered in this paper. The latitudinal distribution of twist that has been derived from recent vector magnetogram observations may be explained by the eeects of convective turbulence with a non-zero kinetic helicity acting on active region scale magnetic ux tubes as they rise through the convection zone. Highly twisted, kink unstable ux tubes are then discussed as a possible explanation for many of the observed properties of are productive, \-spot" active regions.

Development of twist in an emerging magnetic flux tube by poloidal field accretion
Following an earlier proposal by Choudhuri (2003) for the origin of twist in the magnetic fields of solar active regions, we model the penetration of a wrapped up background poloidal field into a toroidal magnetic flux tube rising through the solar convective zone. The rise of the straight, cylindrical flux tube is followed by numerically solving the induction equation in a comoving Lagrangian ...
متن کاملMagnetic Helicity, Coronal Heating and Solar Flaring Activity: A Review of the Role of Active Region Twist
Magnetic helicity of solar active regions is quantified by the twist and writhe of their underlying flux tubes. The twist component, in particular, is believed to be an important determinant of the energetics and dynamics of active regions that ultimately lead to coronal heating and solar eruptive activity. Here, I review the role of active region twist in the context of solar activity – laying...
متن کاملEchocardiographic Assessment of Left Ventricle Torsion by Tissue Doppler and Velocity Vector Imaging
Introduction Left ventricular (LV) twist is believed to store potential energy and plays an important role in generating diastolic suction. Recent advances in echocardiography techniques have allowed quantification of LV twist. The aim of the present study was to compare LV twist and torsion in healthy human subjects determined by velocity vector imaging (VVI) and tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) a...
متن کاملO-1: Evaluation of Ethnic Patterns of Y Chromosome Microdeletions in Iranian Infertile Men with Azoospermia/Severe Oligospermia Referred to Royan Institute
Background: Microdeletions of the long arm of the chromosome Y are the most common molecular genetic cause of severe infertility in men which affect three regions of AZFa, AZFb and AZFc (Azoospermia factor). These regions contain various genes involved in spermatogenesis. The effect of ethnicity on the patterns of Y chromosome microdeletions has not been extensively studied, particulary in Iran...
